Dragon Tales

So I am going to be a great aunt in September which has inspired me to create.  My nephew and his wife are expecting a little boy whom they have named David James or DJ for short.  They both love mystical creatures and have a sizable collection of pewter and statues of fairies, dragons, and knights.  So it goes without saying the baby's room theme is Knights.  With that in mind I wanted to create for him an original piece of art many idea's ran through my head and by accident I came up a canvas piece.  I started with a 8" x 5" canvas, I traced a cute dragon picture from a fantasy crafter's design book (I don't possess the ability to draw. I can trace like a true artist.) I traced it onto the canvas and with my prismasoft markers color in the design.  I used a light blue wash on the canvas to add dimension and took the old say "What little boys are made of" and changed it to fit the piece.  I can't wait to give the piece to them it is something they can treasure forever.

What a sweet gesture! Any little boy's rom might do better with a resident dragon to keep the boy amused.

Into Waters Unknown-January Edition Happy Homemaker Tag Swap

So a new year begins and with it comes the possibility of what can be achieved this time.   Goals to be meet creative idea to exchange and aspire to.  So I begin this year with open eyes, heart and with my soul outstretched to let the light shine in.  I have joined a Tag Swap hosted by one of the very first blogs I read when I began my journey into the craft realm, Elizabeth of Bluebird Papercrafts with her gift for storytelling, vintage take on crafts has inspired me so much.  Each month I will try my hand at a new tag to reflect my take on the months, but also a reflection of the journey I am taking.  The rules are to purchase once a set of paper then use that and whatever you have on hand throughout the year. A Rose By Any Other Name: February’s Happy Homemaker Tag Along

Having the last name of Valentine, February can be either a curse or a blessing.   Growing up my mother made this month even more exciting than Christmas, she would say “This is our month. We are true Valentine’s we are so special we have a day name for us.”   So I grew up looking forward to February 14 th or as I like to call ME DAY, she would shower us with handmade candy, cards, presents and a special dinner.   When I went to school I carried my handmade Valentine’s along with candy to class, with a song in my heart I looked forwarded to the excitement of a day filled with warm hugs.   The only down side was that everyone is class would come up to me and ask how do you spell Valentine after a while I just told them to bring me what they were working on and I would write it.
